Evergreen Administrators Fail Again

I read the article in today's (23 August) Morning News Tribune about Evergreen once again having no moral convictions at all. What I mean by that is that first they censor your cartoons, and then do not have the courage to publish the final edition of their book.

If there are people around whose egos are so fragile that your cartoons would actually offend them, then they must lead very difficult and desparate lives. The administration at Evergreen should recognize that free speech includes all speech, not just that with which they find no fault.

I am a '94 Evergreen graduate (Masters in Teaching) and while I had a wonderful two years there, and got a great education in my chosen field, I found that too many people there, especially among the faculty, were just a mass of ultra-sensitive nerve endings, quick to pounce upon any statement that they could interpret as politically incorrect.

I spent 28 years in the Air Force, and came to recognize that I was there to defend everyone's rights and everyone's liberty, not just those whose views I found acceptable. You and I might disagree on many political and social issues, but I would never even think that you should not be allowed to write (or draw) about your beliefs, or that some administrator should censor you.

Too many people these days believe in free speech as long as it is "good" free speech, meaning something with which they agree.

I most certainly will not buy the publication, although that is a rhetorical question, since it appears that Evergreen is not going to publish anyway.

Hang in there,
