Subject: Too "sensitive" at tesc!
Dear Roger,
I am a tesc alum (1988) and former library staff member up
until I left Olympia in 1995. This censorship in the name of
"sensitivity" is censorship just the same. Working at tesc library we
took pride in NOT censoring what library users saw, though I should say
our record was hardly perfect our mission was to provide information and
not withhold it because some person (or group of persons) might take
offense. We were quite aware that should we get into the business of
censorship that soon we would have nothing left to offer our users. To
wit: I find those gory medical textbooks and disease colour atlases
sickening and I'd want to puke every time I had to shelve books in the
"R" (medical sciences) section but someone else may be thinking of
becoming a physician.
You may place my comments in your web-site though for complex reasons I would prefer to remain anonymous, thank-you.
